Dental services for children

Your child’s first visit

Children’s Dental ServicesWe suggest you start bringing your children with you to your routine checkups once they reach two years old. We make the visits fun and just do little things so they have a chance to get comfortable with us.

Dr. Padolsky may do a basic exam to see if there are any problems, if your child is ready. If he sees something that might need addressing he will do a more in-depth exam once he has gained your child’s trust.

Services we provide for your children

Removable orthodontics

Palatial expanders are used to widen the upper jaw so that the bottom and upper teeth fit together better. They are also used to make room for a child who will be getting orthodontic treatment.

Space maintainers for premature tooth loss. If a baby tooth is lost too early, adjacent teeth can shift out of position and get in the way of the permanent tooth when it finally comes in. Also, the loss of the baby tooth too early can cause the permanent tooth to erupt into the wrong position in the mouth. This is because the baby tooth is no longer there to act as a guide for the permanent tooth.

Dr. Padolsky custom makes his own removable orthodontic appliances right in his office.

Tooth-colored fillings

Dr. Padolsky has a gentle touch in removing any tooth decay from a child’s tooth. He uses composite, tooth-colored fillings to fill cavities and makes this procedure as easy and painless as possible.

Sealants

Dental sealants are applied to the back teeth to cover deep grooves and fissures. Sealants keep cavity-causing plaque and bacteria out of those areas of your child’s teeth where it is difficult to reach. Sealants are also useful for children who have not yet developed proper brushing techniques.

Crowns for kids

Children sometimes need a crown to repair a tooth that is damaged or decayed. It is important to try to preserve primary teeth until they are ready to fall out on their own. They help guide the permanent teeth into the proper position and they maintain the space for those teeth to erupt. If your child has a damaged or decayed tooth, beyond what can be repaired with a filling, Dr. Padolsky may recommend a crown.

Baby Root Canals

A baby root canal is otherwise referred to as a pulpotomy. It is basically the first step that is taken in a full adult root canal. Dr. Padolsky will only remove the pulp tissue in the crown of the child’s tooth, above the root canal. This dental procedure is done when there is a very deep cavity that goes into the pulp (nerve) of the tooth.

Gentle cleanings

Our highly trained dental hygienist is very good with children and will provide them with gentle and thorough teeth cleanings. She will also educate them on proper brushing and flossing techniques. Regular professional cleanings are very important because the hygienist can reach areas between the teeth and gums where brushing and flossing can’t.

Children’s Emergency Dental Care

Dr. Padolsky also sees children as part of our emergency dental services. He always sees emergency patients on the same day. Dental emergencies can include a tooth infection, abscess, a missing filling, or a knocked out tooth. If your child is complaining of unspecified tooth pain, please call for an emergency appointment.
