Few people want to say "I need a root canal". More often people think, "How can I avoid getting a root canal?". While a root canal may be the most dreaded procedure in all of dentistry it really should not be. Root canal therapy is actually a way of avoiding complications later on. When the pulp inside the tooth becomes infected dentists use a root canal procedure in order to save the tooth from dying and the need for a tooth extraction. Preventing the need to remove a tooth prevents the need to replace the tooth. Dental restorations can be expensive and have disadvantages the make a root canal a much better choice.
I
need a root canal is not something
that most people say because of the bad name that the procedure
has earned over the years. Not too long ago the American Association
of Endodontists officially changed the name of the procedure to
root canal therapy to reflect the extent to which the procedure
has evolved. State of
the art dentistry has provided dentists with cutting edge
tools and procedures for doing to procedure as quickly and efficiently
as possible with minimal affect on the patient.
If you have thought
about your options and thought "I need a root canal"
then you should have an idea of what will happen during the procedure.
The dentist goes in under local anesthesia and hollows out the
crown of the tooth in order to get inside
the tooth. The dentist will then go in and remove the pulp of
the tooth in order to clean out the infection. When the tooth
is properly cleaned out it is filled in with a substance, usually
gutta percha, and finished of with a dental
crown to restore full functionality to the tooth.
At the Atlanta Dental
Group PC we want to help our patients say I need a root canal without any worry about the procedure. We do this
by using equipment such as high torque handpieces used with titanium

x-ray. Dr. Mark Allan Padolsky

treatment and all of our dentists are concerned about helping
their patients get through the procedure with as little discomfort
as possible. Remember, the longer this is put off, the worse the
result can be. The dentists at the Atlanta Dental Group PC
